[Korea.net News, Science / Tech, January 8 2008] Robotic construction tech to take off

Robots are commonly used in car assembly production, but will soon be utilized in the construction of multi-story buildings in Korea.

The Construction and Transportation Ministry has secured core technology for erecting tall buildings using robots, having robots do the risky tasks far above ground instead of human workers.

A combination of robotic know-how and high-story construction, it stands as one of the proud examples of Korea’s next-generation growth engines.

The ministry has applied for 12 patents on the technology, including an intelligent tower crane, through a research unit under Korea University in Seoul that was launched in 2006.
