A few years ago, a senior journalist told the hard-luck story of his career in the field. "I’d never be a journalist in the next life,” he said. “I’d pick another profession." But he immediately thought better of it. "No. I’d work again as a journalist, or I’d find some job where there was absolutely no chance of being harassed by journalists myself." Journalists are fully aware that they are not welcome anywhere.
